Number of Mediation Sessions Required to Resolve Issues

How many mediation sessions does it typically take to resolve all the issues? How frequent are the sessions?

Amy Zylman Shimalla’s Answer:

It is totally dependent on the family the mediator is dealing with. Every family, and every set of circumstances, is unique. An average may be three sessions. Sessions are scheduled as frequently as the parties wish, every two weeks on average. In private mediations without counsel, I usually schedule two hour sessions. In sessions with counsel, I often schedule larger blocks of time especially if experts are involved. Ultimately, the parties decide how they want to schedule.
